Uncontaminated is just what BirD-elicious! is all about.
Our foods are hand-processed. We use minimal "equipment" so that we can insure our foods to maintain extremely low counts of heavy metals. In today's society it is absolutely impossible for foodstuffs to remain 100% metal-free. This is because of all of the equipment growers and manufacturers use in the process of growing, processing, manufacturing and distributing our foods.
But heavy metal toxicity can be controlled so that the percentage is at a minimum. We accomplish this by making our foods by hand, just like Grandma used to do! We do not have large pieces of equipment that cut, chop, churn, mix, compact and package. Our hands are used during the entire process. The equipment we do need to use is equipped with stainless steel blades or pewter paddles. Soon, we will not even use pewter, but stainless steel paddles. These are very expensive as you can imagine. Just our mixer bowl alone, 20 qt. size, carries a price of over $400.00 per bowl!
But we believe it's all worth it when the health and welfare of our birds is at stake.
In addition, our foods come from the top producers of organic foods in the U.S. as well as Canada. The majority of our ingredients have been certified as "organic" by government controlled certification agencies. Ingredients that are not "certified organic" are wild-crafted organic. This means that they were grown in fields that have not had fertilizers or pesticides used on or in the ground or plants. Usually wild-crafted organic ingredients are obtained from countries that lack a certification process and therefore the best label they can be given in the U.S. is "wild-crafted" organic. Then we have a couple of ingredients we have to state as being "natural" ingredients. Our primary "natural" ingredient would be our insect ingredients. We obtain these insects from a company in the U.S. who feeds their insects only human-grade foodstuffs. But because insects are not yet recognized as a viable foodstuff in the U.S., they cannot be labeled "certified organic". Many countries recognize insects as a nutritious part of their daily diet and are consumed for their high protein content. The type of protein obtained from insects is considered an "animal protein". Animal proteins contain "haem" iron, plant proteins do not. Haem iron has more bio availability than non-haem, plant iron does. Lack of iron uptake can cause anemia among other disorders. It is necessary to understand that all living creatures need a balanced iron source.
Our foods are not produced in an area where any industrial runoffs occur. Neither are there any heavy air pollutants from surrounding industry settle in our facility's location. We are located in a mountainous region, near, but not on, a very clean bay area located in Washington state.
We take every precaution we humanly can to insure that your bird's food is as free of contamination as possible.
Feed BirD-elicious! with utmost confidence!
